Georgia Tech held a very successful orientation session to the City of Albany and Dougherty County small business programs on July 20th.
The highlight of the event was the instruction provided on how to write and deliver an elevator speech. An elevator speech is a 30-second pitch in which a business person states his or her expertise and capabilities.
On the “listening end” of the elevator speeches given by the 40 business people in attendance were representatives of City of Albany and Dougherty County governments.
The event was kicked-off by remarks from Dougherty County Commissioner Gloria Gaines, County Administrator Richard Crowdis, City of Albany Purchasing Director Stephen Collier, and several other City and County officials.
If you missed this event, you’ll want to attend the next one. Watch for our announcements of upcoming training and networking opportuniuties.

Bid match service in the spotlight on Aug. 30
August 23, 2011 by llyons
If you are a registered client of the Georgia Tech Procurement Assistance Center (GTPAC), there’s special class planned for Albany on August 30th that you should not miss.

Are you unsure what to do with the bid match emails you receive? Are you confused about what they say? Are you uncertain how to follow-up on them? Are you receiving bid matches that are not relevant to your interests? If your answer “yes” to any of these questions, then you owe it to yourself to attend the special class on August 30, from 1:00 until 3:00 pm in the Albany Microbusiness Enterprise Center located at 230 S. Jackson St., Albany, GA 31701-2885.

Want to learn how to work with small business specialists?
August 23, 2011 by llyons
You may know that all federal agencies — any many units of state and local government — employ people they call “small business specialists” to act as advocates for small businesses trying to win contracts with their respective government agency. Typically, these folks don’t have time to do much hand-holding, and they must be selective about who they chose to advocate on behalf of. But, if you can impress them with your experience and expertise, most small business specialists can open the doors of government procurement to you.
The question is, what’s the right way to approach them?
For answers to this question you should attend a special class being conducted on August 30, from noon until 1:00 pm, in the Albany Microbusiness Enterprise Center located at 230 S. Jackson St., Albany, GA 31701-2885.
Please pre-register so we can adequately plan. Simply go to http://gtpac.ecenterdirect.com/ConferenceDetail.action?ID=6833 to register.
We hope to see you on the 30th!
